The artist has to be iconic, and not for any kind of image that they may try to project but for the art that they've produced. It has to be someone whose music has become part of the cultural landscape, with songs that feel timeless, songs that outlive the era in which they were created. They have to have shown consistency in terms of the quality of their work, even as their music shows artistic growth along the way.
